I must confess from the outset I love Robert
Downey, Jr. and Robin Wright Penn. They are both effortless,
consummate actors, and I’ve never seen a less than believable
performance from either of them. For me, a movie is all about
suspension of disbelief. If I can’t lose myself in a movie,
then why am I wasting my time? And despite the superb cast,
the plot of this one’s a little unbelievable. In fact,
it’s quite a wild ride. We’re talking Alice
in Wonderland weird. Downey plays the lead role of a
paperback writer with a severe psychosomatic skin condition
suffering a psychotic break. Gee, isn’t that the foundation
for every good film? A word of warning here: Don’t watch
this film on morphine. In fact, if you like morphine, this film
is for you. In fact, if you understand this film, skip the morphine.
It’s just redundant, and it’s in such bad taste
to watch a Downey flick under the influence.
