Bridge Underwater:
  So What
This is a pretty good jangle pop tune, but what makes it work is that the vocalist has a natural tremolo the likes of which hasn't been seen since Feargel Sharkey retired (or whatever happened to him). That makes the song just a little more interesting. Not bad at all.

Broke For Free:

The Gold Lining
This is a nice little electro tune with tinkling guitar and looped rhythms that sound like something Four Tet would do. That guitar is a really nice addition to this sort of electro tune. The whole thing moves along at a happy little pace, and is good head-bopping fun.

Eeek!:

Tough Guys
This has some really nice jazzy drums, layers of almost Felt-like chiming guitarwork, and vocals that remind me of David Byrne in early Talking Heads. And then on the chorus, the rest of the band shouts a response to the lead vocalist's call, and they sound like a normal Emo band from the heartland. It is an interesting mix, but it works more often than not.

Mittenfields:

My Mind Is an Avalanche
First off, i love the name of this band. Here they have turned in a decent pop tune, with guitars that chime and chug while the drums drive the song forward. The voice is a tortured yowl, choking the words out while almost buried in the mix. I like the way the layers combine here, and the song is a good, energetic, post-punk pop tune. Fans of Interpol and their ilk will want to check this out.

Pretty and Nice:

Capsules
Pretty and Nice are a quartet from Boston that have a sort of early Elvis-Costello sound. Huh. You don’t hear a lot of people influenced by that kind of thing these days, and yet, it makes perfect pop music. This is pretty fun.

The Sky Drops:

Explain It To Me
This is a sort of droning tune that is a little but Sonic Youth and a little bit My Bloody Valentine. The guitars grind nicely, but the voice is a little on the whiney side. Recorded, it's decent for what it is, but i bet these guys are great live.

Slam Donahue:

I Turn On
This is a noisy, shouty, deliriously happy pop. "Do you parents still have sex?" they yell at the start of the song... and reply, "I hope not". And then it gets all hand clappy and fun. The keyboards and voices are all very trebly in a manner that reminds me of Dominant Legs.

Swamp Dogg:
  If I Die Tomorrow
This is apparently a re-release of a song by an old soul singer. I had never heard of him before, but this song fits perfectly within the late 1960s soul genre. It has a great thumping bass riff and his voice all James Brown over top, just wailing... I love this kind of stuff -- it just makes me want to shuffle my feet. Your mileage may vary of course.

Wowser Bowser:
  The Garden
This is a great poppy track, with echoed voice, soaring keys and warbling guitars. The song tends to get stuck in my head, the bit, "I was asleep in the garden / when somebody woke me / when somebody woke me / to tell me that I was asleep in the garden" looping over and over... The whole song is really catchy and interesting. I need to see this Atlanta band at some point.

E Dialeda Ho (Countless Others remix)
I really like the way this remix goes, with echoed voice singing a happy little melody over a wavering drone and skittering drums... It is mellow and happy, just kind of cruising along which a really great head-bopping rhythm.

The Wrens:
  Everyone Choose Sides
This is a rollicking good post-punk tune, with shades of Liverhearts in the voice, over a cascade of crunchy guitar noise. It really rocks with a bit of Britpoppishness. Great stuff.
